« Inspired by the photorealism of the 70s, I create still lifes with distinct characteristics of this medium.
For each of my paintings, I need one or more photographic templates. I photograph motifs that appeal to me and that I can visualise as a painting. In that way, I build up a digital library from which I later select the corresponding photos. The photos come about by chance. Often I edit the detail, but I always keep the colours original. The composition and light situation are not influenced by me. I specifically look for contrasts and try to capture as
many as possible.
The luxembourgish fun fair 'Schueberfouer' offered itself very well for my project. What matters to me is the aesthetics of colours, shapes but above all
materials. In these works I try to reproduce the materiality, the depth and the light situation in a manner that is comprehensible to the viewer who should be able to put himself in the situation. The viewer should establish a connection and perhaps even see the figures as living beings, despite the non-living objects I have chosen as motifs.
The aesthetics of the surfaces play a major role in my works. I am also attracted by the abstract surfaces created by transparent materials such as
plastic or glass. They form an additional contrast to the clear lines and edges.
Themes such as childhood, mass production and memory are addressed in the works,
but not deliberately provoked. »
